Harvest Ministries helps the community farmers to sustain their livestock in drought

Northern Mexico and South Texas have been in drought conditions for several years, but the lack of rain is severe this year. Drought in combination with high fuel prices is making it difficult for farmers to transport food from areas where it can be grown to their own fields so that the farm animals can be sustained. Animals are very important to the economy of rural areas. This is particularly true in Mexico where mechanization is lagging compared to the USA. Barley is a nutrient rich grain that nourishes the animals and keeps them working.

Dr. Romo tells me: We have started the ministry’s barley project where we gather and transport barley for the farmers who can not afford to get it themselves due to the high cost of fuel. This is the second year that we have helped the locals feed their livestock, which is necessary due to the drought and hard freeze. Also shown is a small extension to the community commissary used for storing things like barley for distribution.

Their work is vital to planting the Gospel in the area West of Piedras Negras. The community leaders are behind the Romos. The rest of the community respects them also. Because of this, they have won many families to Jesus. This is how children are stabilized and confirmed in the Gospel. Child evangelism is good, right, and necessary, but parent evangelization multiplies the lasting benefit.
