Harvest Ministries Ocampo project

Dr. Romo, M.D., N.D. and Pedro MM (Medical Missionary) Minister in the Ocampo region. The ground work for this effort was laid by the Albert Schweitzer Institute for Pastoral Medicine beginning in about 2017. The institute negotiated with the state officials for access to the villages in this area for the purpose of teaching natural medicine to the people of the villages. In Mexican society the task of family medicine is relegated to the women. Typically the grandmother is the medical expert for the family. The younger women spend their time and energy raising children, housekeeping, helping their husbands, and working on projects, such as gardening or crafts in order to support the family. The grandmothers, having already raised their children have time and energy to study medical practices. These healers are called Curanderas. Usually these practices are based in witchcraft and superstition, so this is a fertile field for Christian natural medicine to introduce Jesus, the Bible, the Gospel, faith in God, and proper use of natural healing methods free from the demons that tribal healers have consulted with for centuries. We are also in a position to cast out demons and set people free in the name of Jesus!

Dr. Romo is one of the instructors employed by the Schweitzer institute, but he has received permission to work independently as Harvest Ministries in an area that is not being worked by the institute. We are closely partnered with Harvest Ministries. These villages are remote as you can see in the pictures below. The infrastructure in the village municipal buildings is good, but most of the houses and roads are crude. Medical care is limited, so the people are left to care for themselves. This makes them very interested in time tested Naturopathic methods of self care and recovery from disease. The invitation by the state officials has opened the door for teaching and preaching about Jesus and the Kingdom of heaven when the health training and agricultural methods are implemented. Dr. Romo teaches the medical courses and Pedro teaches agriculture. Missionaries generally have limited access to such villages without a drawing method such as medicine. The Lord has positioned us to walk through this open door.

Dr. Romo and Pedro distribute school supplies, Bibles, food, and medical literature to the villagers, who are happy to attend, receive the supplies, listen to the presentations, hear the Gospel, and receive prayer ministry. Thank you for your prayers and support!
