Dr. and Alice Romo of Harvest Ministries are pictured in front of a wedding canopy used by the son of a tribal leader in Lacandon. The Romos were invited because of the relationship between their ministry and the tribe, which resulted in friendship with one of the chiefs. This chief invited the Romos to attend the wedding because they had demonstrated that they care for the tribe through promises that they kept over the course of time. The Romos are not hit and run missionaries. On the contrary, they continue to revisit territory to strengthen relationships and to meet the needs of the people. Instead of just bringing things and leaving, they teach, preach, and minister the Gospel to the locals through ministry of the Word of God and through teaching natural medicine.
On a previous visit this spring, Dr. Romo visits with the father of the groom. This man is a tribal leader who is pastoring three churches in the Lacandon region of Chiapas. He is a Christian believer, as is his family. He exended a invitation to Dr. Romo and Alice to attend the wedding of his son as honored guests. It is the favor of God that has given such favor to the Romos. They are respected because they keep their promises. It was this brother who extended the invitation to Harvest Ministries to evangelize the Lacandon region of Chiapas. Promise keeping is a necessary trait for fellowship to thrive with covenant keeping tribal people. As Proverbs says: “Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find”? Proverbs 20:6
