Harvest Ministries conducting classes in Yahalon, Chiapas

Dr. and Mrs. Romo are very dear to me (Bobby). I would not still be alive without Dr. Romo’s help. He is a good doctor and is very sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. In my case, the Lord sent him to treat me even though it looked as I would not last another two years. Nevertheless, he obeyed the Lord and helped me according to the same plan that he is using throughout Mexico. He became my mentor in Naturopathy. My family and I have received telephone calls from him at critical times (particularly early in our training) when we needed instruction on how to treat each severe illness that we had at the time. Each time this happened, he had been prompted by the Lord through a dream or revelation letting him know what the problem was, how severe it was, and what to do about it. We respect him, and his indications have always worked.

This article features his missions trip into the Yajalon region of Chiapas. It is mountainous, and most of the villages are remote. The Lord lead him to avoid directly treating patients, opting instead to teach principles of natural medicine. This method is much more effective than one would suppose, since we are accustomed to the M.D. which is trained to view the body as a machine composed of parts and systems, much like any other machine. The education for the M.D. is extensive, since he is expected to diagnose diseases by presenting symptoms so that he can treat the condition with a drug, surgery, or radiation. This trio of tools corresponds to the medieval trio of treatments: poison, cut, or burn. The medical profession is much more sophisticated now, but the basic methods have hot progressed as far as the polished clinics and hospitals would imply. Medicine is dangerous.

Natural medicine, on the other hand equips the body to heal itself. This does not imply that there is no place for what is called Orthodox Medicine (more specifically, Allopathic Medicine), but chronic diseases respond much better to diet, lifestyle, air, sun, and water than they respond to drugs. Providentially, natural medicine lends itself well to teaching the principles to students who become teachers. We select students based not only on aptitude, but for character. The fork in the road between Christian Naturopathy and Shamanism is who gets the glory for the recovery: Jesus or the Doctor. Jesus is the Great Physician. He is the water of life. He is our daily bread, and He is the water of life. Medicine is about the master, not the missionary.

The Romos’ visit to this village was brief, but it was long enough to organize a short class to orient students in the principles of natural medicine. The area is beautiful, and the people are friendly. As a note of caution, outsiders are allowed into the jungles and mountains of Chiapas by invitation only. It is a great honor for the Romos to be welcomed. Thank you for helping us to send them into the mission field. They are a good ministry.
