The flood of immigrants from Haiti has lead to a difficult humanitarian problem along the northern border of Mexico. Pedro and Fabiola are the closest of our missions stations to Cd. Acuña (which is across the Rio Grande river from Del Rio, TX). They are providing relief with supplies that have been gathered in Mexico. There is no budget for this effort, and we would not normally be doing this kind of activity, but the people are gathering on the Mexican side of the river destabilizing the communities. Evangelism is difficult for the staff since the Haitians are not Spanish speakers. Their language is a mixture of English and French, making it difficult for Americans to communicate with them.
We will meet the challenge, and believe God for a harvest among these people. The best solution for the problem is the conversion and discipleship of the people who are flooding into our countries. Please pray for an awakening to God among all of the immigrants (legal and illegal) so that they will help build the Kingdom of God wherever they settle. We have found over the years that often new converts to the Gospel are so excited about the Lord that they eagerly return home to evangelize their communities. That is the best solution. Only the Gospel can elevate any people from the curse to the blessing: from poverty to prosperity.
