Dr. and Mrs. Romo founded and operate Harvest Ministries. They operate from a mission station along the border between the interior and the frontier region of Coahuila, Mexico. The mission offers medical, agricultural, and staple foods for the surrounding communities. The mission station operates a clinic and a church. Dr. Romo also represents the Albert Schweitzer Institute for Pastoral Ministry. In his capacity as regional director for the institute, he is the mentor for the medical missionary training of the Bob King ministries staff in Mexico. He is a Naturopathic physician (Christian) in contrast to the shamans and curanderos which are popular in Mexico. Almost all of the practitioners of tribal medicine practice various forms of witchcraft. Naturaopathic medicine is the Christian alternative.
His practice (as well as mine) is based on eight laws of health that were present at the creation of man in the garden of Eden. These are: Nutrition, Exercise, Pure Water, Sunshine, Self Control, Pure Air, Rest, and Trust in God (Faith in God). Because of the pandemic, Dr. Romo has been called on to treat COVID-19 in many cases and is successful with simple natural methods. [I have had the same experience in the United States.] COVID-19 with all of its variants is a serious disease, but it is treatable if it is dealt with early and correctly. COVID-19 can severely weaken the system for more than a week even if it is treated early and properly (in this case, using natural medicine), but he is not losing patients.
The mission station is built on Village (Ejido) property that has been allocated to his ministry by the elders of the village. From this base, he and his wife, Alice minister to adults and children alike. Pictured below is the building that they use for the food bank ministry. The food is supplied at discount by the government and sold to the community at low prices. This store serves the community with a food supply that would not have been available otherwise. There is not enough money to be made in this type of food bank to live on, however it provides the opportunity to become acquainted with each of the families in the community and to offer the Gospel to them. Dr. Romo delivers much of the food to other villages and distributes it as a benevolence.
The Church building is used for weekly services, but it also feeds members of the community who attend the meetings. The village is substantial in size. The ministry has enjoyed favor with the community due to the cultivation of a deep trust relationship between the ministry and the village. It is rare, and very valuable. Hungry Kids International has partnered with Harvest Ministries for many years, though we have had very few pictures available to show for it. Recently, the network facilitating communication with the Romos has improved so that their sending pictures is no longer a problem. We are pleased with the work that they are doing. God Bless them, and God Bless our Partners. Thank you very much for responding to the Lord.
Harvest Ministries has other outreaches as well, but more about that in another post.
